Beverly Pepper Park in Todi was vandalized: some of the American artist’s works were daubed with paint on the night of Nov. 8-9. Those responsible for the vandalism are still unknown.
On its Facebook page, the Beverly Pepper Projects Foundation posted pictures of the daubed works, accompanied by these words, “If these works and the nature that hosts them could speak today they would ask us to save them from those who do not like their surroundings. What happened last night tells us that incivility is the child of hatred and discomfort.”
The park was opened to the public in September 2019 and is the first monothematic contemporary sculpture park in Umbria and the first in the world dedicated to the artist, who passed away last February at the age of 97. The sculptures are surrounded by greenery, creating a nature-urban path that connects the Temple of Santa Maria della Consolazione with the historic center. The Park allows visitors to fully enjoy theinteraction between artwork, landscape, monumentality and urban context.
The artist herself designed and planned the Park, placing there sixteen sculptures from her private collection and created from 1963 to 2018, giving visitors an opportunity to retrace her long career.
