For the first time, the San Casciano bronzes, theexceptional group of votive statuettes found in November 2022 at San Casciano dei Bagni in Tuscany at the site of the “Bagno Grande,” are being shown to the public. Indeed, it opens from June 23 to July 25, and then again from September 2 to October 29, 2023, at the Palazzo del Quirinale in Rome, the exhibition Gli dèi ritornano. The Bronzes of San Casciano, which is already bookable from the Quirinal Palace website.

The exhibition is intended to be a journey within the landscape of the hot waters of the Chiusi area. Indeed, the exceptional tradition of bronze productions from this area of inner Etruria is presented as a spiral of time and space. Just as hot spring water swirls and becomes travertine, the visitor discovers how bronze offerings meet water in a multitude of sacred places of the past. It is not just a moment in history, but a chain of rites and cults. From the landscape to the sacred, from hot water to bronzes, San Casciano dei Bagni’s tale of discovery becomes a discovery of the ancient and of the possibility, thanks to the archaeological excavation of a context such as the Bagno Grande, of bringing cultural heritage alive.
