Remember the photo shoot of controversy, the one shot by influencer Chiara Ferragni at the Uffizi last July for Vogue Hong Kong magazine? The one of the photographs with the Primavera, of the selfies with director Eike Schmidt , who a few days ago attributed to those very photos an increase in museum visits? Well: more than two months later, the issue of the publication with the images taken in Florence that sparked a thousand online discussions this summer has finally been released.
Two images, taken by the young Slovak photographer Michal Pudelka, were published on the magazine’s website, showing Chiara Ferragni posing in Prada clothes in the Florentine gallery: in one of the two images, the entrepreneur from Cremona can be seen impaling the portrait of the man with the medal of Cosimo the Elder, a masterpiece by Sandro Botticelli. And since stacking Botticelli (i.e., in photographic and television jargon, covering him up by hiding him from the view of those on this side of the screen) certainly isn’t very respectful of the great Florentine artist, it’s a safe bet that the cover of the October issue of Vogue Hong Kong will also spark new controversy.
The magazine, however, extols the blonde influencer (whose “sweet photos with her husband and son have won the hearts of many girls,” says Vogue Hong Kong), who has more than 20 million followers on Instagram, and the “temple of Renaissance art” (as they call the Uffizi). In addition, Vogue also revealed that the Uffizi will bring as many as forty paintings from their collection to Hong Kong, which will be displayed at the local HKMoA (Hong Kong Museum of Art). At the moment, it is not known which ones: they could be major works, as well as works taken from storage. The news that some works from the Uffizi might leave Florence to go to China has been known for some time, since the Uffizi, in November 2019, signed an agreement with the city of Hong Kong for this very purpose: in any case, so far it is not known which works will be sent. But it is nonetheless a matter that can be discussed, certainly more than Chiara Ferragni’s photographs.
