Following theentry into force of the green pass as of today, August 6, 2021, for all cultural sites in Italy, there are also those who decide to gear up to still let in as many people as possible. It happens at the Archaeological Park of Pompeii: here, too, as in all other archaeological sites in Italy, you enter only with a green certificate. However, the Park has decided to go further and so, in collaboration with the Campania Region - ASL 3 Naples South, it has decided to activate, just starting on August 6, a station at the entrance to Piazza Anfiteatro, operational during the usual times of entry to the site, for the administration of rapid antigenic swabs with the issuance of the corresponding green pass, valid for 48 hours as per the decree. The service, which is being carried out on an experimental basis for now, is free of charge for visitors to the site.
In order to facilitate controls and access to the Park, visitors are asked to keep the required documentation on hand. The staff present at the access gates will check the QR digitally with the provided application “VerifyC19” (paper certificate is also allowed) along with the visitor’s ID in order to verify the actual ownership, as per the provisions.
For the time being, Pompeii Park is the only cultural institution in Italy to provide a... green pass directly on site. “In a global emergency situation such as the one we are currently experiencing,” said Gabriel Zuchtriegel, director of Pompeii Archaeological Park, “the task of those who manage a place of culture must be to best reconcile the needs of public health and safety with our mission to be an inclusive, accessible and open place for all. With this in mind, we have asked the Campania Region about the possibility of activating a free rapid testing facility for our visitors. This is an experiment for now that we will monitor carefully, but times of crisis sometimes call for quick and unusual responses. I thank the Campania Region and Asl Napoli 3 for promptly accommodating our request and the visitors for their understanding and cooperation.”
