Koons' Balloon Dog stolen from a Frankfurt gallery

A porcelain sculpture by Jeff Koons was stolen from a Frankfurt gallery: the orange-colored Balloon Dog estimated at 11 thousand euros.

Stolen from a gallery in Frankfurt ’s Kaiserstraße is Jeff KoonsBalloon Dog (orange). The porcelain work made in 2015 was located in a glass case, and it came as a shock to the gallery director to discover that the sculpture by the well-known American artist was gone. The theft of the work valued at 11,000 euros reportedly took place on Nov. 6, probably during opening hours, but without anyone noticing.

Police are investigating the theft committed unnoticed, but there is still no trace of it.

The Balloon Dog is among Koons’ most iconic works. Original sculptures fetch very expensive sums of money: one of his stainless steel bunnies (a 1986 Rabbit ) fetched $91,075,000 at auction in May 2019 at Christie’s in New York, the highest price ever fetched at auction for a living artist.
