From June 19 to September 12, 2021, the Mart in Trento presents in its exhibition spaces the Camera Picta exhibition, curated by Margherita de Pilati, Gabriele Lorenzoni and Federico Mazzonelli.
As the title emphasizes, the exhibition intends to focus on the concept of camera picta, that is, a fully decorated room capable of changing the very perception of the architecture in which one finds oneself, and in particular on the contemporary reinterpretation of the ancient concept.
Eight contemporary artists (Francesco Arena, Stefano Arienti, Benni Bosetto, Andrea Mastrovito, Fabrizio Perghem, Alessandro Piangiamore, Federico Pietrella, and Esther Stocker) will create special camera picte using traditional techniques such as painting and sculpture and contemporary techniques such as installation, light, and sound.
Model of reference will be the Cycle of the Months of Torre Aquila, one of the masterpieces kept in the Buonconsiglio Castle in Trent, frescoed in the late 14th and early 15th centuries by Master Wenceslas in the International Gothic style. And in the halls of the Castle, the exhibition project will be completed by Francesco De Grandi’s work, a March version that, by bringing different eras into dialogue, ideally fills a gap in the fresco cycle.
