From October 28, 2023 to February 29, 2024, the Museum of the Ancient Palace of Bishops in Pistoia will host The Enchanted Garden. An interactive journey through the millefiori tapestry: animmersive installation dedicated to one of the masterpieces of 16th-century Flemish textile art.
The installation, which gives visitors the chance to see the tapestry in three dimensions, is a project of Fondazione Pistoia Musei and Fondazione Caript conceived and realized in collaboration with the art collective camerAnebbia, curated in its scientific content by Annamaria Iacuzzi and Cristina Taddei, conservators of Fondazione Pistoia Musei, and Gaia Ravalli, art historian at the Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa, with the supervision of Monica Preti.
The PistoiaMillefiori Tapestry known as “of the Adoration” is an artifact of considerable size (267 x 790 cm), made of silk and wool, depicting a refined flower garden also populated by wild and fantastic animals.
The Millefiori Tapestry, owned by Pistoia Cathedral and on display in the Museum of the Ancient Palace of Bishops since 2016, will be featured in the exhibition Fabulous Calvin. The World as a Work of Art: Carpaccio, de Chirico, Gnoli, Melotti and Others, scheduled at the Scuderie del Quirinale from October 13, 2023 to February 4, 2024.
The Enchanted Garden aims to propose through an immersive projection the history and making of the tapestry and to delve into the contents dedicated to flora and fauna from an unusual and innovative point of view.
At the end of the exhibition dedicated to Italo Calvino, with the return of the tapestry to the hall of the Museum of the Ancient Palace of Bishops, the digital work can be shared with institutions, institutes, schools, to promote awareness of the work and the museum.
Hours: Sunday, Oct. 29, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; from Nov. 1, Wednesday to Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Opening event open to the public Saturday, Oct. 28, at 6 p.m. Free admission without reservation.
