In Florence, from September 21 to 23, 2018 (on the occasion of Heritage Days), the cultural festival L’Eredità delle Donne will be held. It will be hosted by Serena Dandini and will have among its guests important national and international personalities from the different fields of culture: journalism, politics, cinema, science and, of course, art, all with an all-female slant to highlight the value, the precious legacy and the great influence that women have given and continue to give in these areas. The festival will address, for the first time in Italy, the theme of women’sempowerment through culture, information and entertainment.
Under the aegis of a “historical” matrina, namely Anna Maria Luisa de’ Medici (Florence, 1667 - 1743), chosen by virtue of her passion for culture that led her to bind the family’s great collection to the Tuscan state, the festival offers the public a dense program of events, consisting of three theatrical evenings conceived by Serena Dandini, and a program of initiatives in collaboration with the main Florentine cultural institutions that in some cases unveil for the first time or preview little-known pieces of the city’s artistic heritage. The values and spirit of the festival will be shared by numerous Florentine cultural and commercial entities who over the three days will organize the events that will make up an off poster that will temporarily transform Florence into the city of women.
One of the main focuses of the Festival will be on thecultural industry: Ilaria Borletti Buitoni, honorary president of Amref Italia Onlus and former undersecretary of the MIBACT, Valeria Napoleone, contemporary art collector and curator, entrepreneur Giannola Nonino, gallery owner Lia Rumma and Patrizia Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, president of the Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, all women involved in spreading and promoting knowledge and funding the artistic expressions of the present, will participate in the meetings. On Saturday, Sept. 22, at the Terrace of the Oblate Library, the protagonists of contemporary cultural production will meet to shed light on the economic dimensions and essential tools of female patronage.
The meetings will be held at Palazzo Corsini, which will open for free for the first time in history the entire collection of the ancient Florentine noble Corsini family. Telling visitors about it will be the granddaughters of Elena Corsini for an all-female story. The fact that this heritage (which preserves, among others, masterpieces by Botticelli, Filippino Lippi, Pontormo and Giovanni Bellini) has come down to us and is now preserved in Palazzo Corsini is, in fact, due to the courage, modernity and resourcefulness of Elena Corsini, who during World War II saved such an extraordinary treasure, now belonging to the four Corsini sisters, in a daring way. And also as part of the festival, the public will be able to preview the Crucifixion by Plautilla Nelli (Florence, 1524 - 1588) undergoing restoration (the work belongs to the Museo del Cenacolo di Andrea del Sarto and is undergoing the work of Rossella Lari, conducted thanks to the contribution of AWA Advancing Women Artists Foundation, in collaboration with the Polo Museale della Toscana). Guided tours of the workshop are planned.
But there are many other initiatives at the festival, all with free admission subject to availability. More information can be found at www.ereditadelledonne.eu.
The project is sponsored by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities, the Municipality of Florence and Estate Fiorentina, with the partnership of Gucci, with contributions from Poste Italiane, Banca CR Firenze of the Intesa San Paolo Group, Pitti Immagine and “Tuscany, the beauty of paper”, a trademark of Cartiere Carrara, in collaboration with Publiacqua SpA, with the technical sponsorship of Unicoop Firenze, in twinning with HF Ile-de-France and the MèMO Association, with the media partnership of RAI Radio 2 and Fenysia - School of the Languages of Culture.
