JR's big participatory art project is coming to Milan. The location is still top secret

The City of Milan has announced the arrival in the Lombard capital of theInside Out Project, the "project by French artist JR that transforms people’s stories and dreams into large works of public art to create a dialogue with the community and promote reflection on social and cultural issues. The project is scheduled to begin in January, but the location of the installation has not yet been announced.

Already famous for transforming the facade of Palazzo Strozzi with a large trompe l’oeil or placing the Eiffel Tower on the edge of a cliff, JR brings to life projects that combine photography and street art with great visual impact.

Inside Out Project is a large participatory art project that consists of countless black and white portraits on a single background that go over the surface of monuments or public spaces.

Over the past twelve months, nearly thirty thousand portraits have been taken and twenty-eight different countries visited, through 109 group actions and 17 photo booth activations. This year the photo booth explored Brazil, Egypt, France, Germany, Japan, the United States and Switzerland. Group activations covered various topics such as mental health, refugees andeducation. In 2022, the Inside Out project drew attention to the plight of refugees around the world. The group actions were organized to give visibility to communities that have been affected or displaced by issues such as war, climate change, or social instability.

One will still have to wait, however, to learn more about the project in Milan.
