U.S. photographer Blake Little's 'Preservation' series depicts people and animals entirely covered in honey. It dates back to 2015.
It was 2015 when U.S. photographer Blake Little published his monograph Preservation, which included images made between 2012 and 2015. The special feature of the work? They were all photographs of people and animals covered in honey: gallons and gallons of honey poured over the protagonists of the shots, for an alienating effect, almost as if the characters were preserved inside large amber gems.
"Preservation has several meanings, from the physical to the spiritual. At a basic - and perhaps more important - level, it can symbolize survival. Hence the idea of protection, inherent in the word. But while such a word often implies a kind of stability, or even stasis, preservation also implies transformation: preserves [ed. note: preserves in English] exist only if they are separate from hunting grounds, and fruit preserves [ed. note: also preserves in English] are obtained after hours and hours of boiling to create a sweet and lasting essence." This is stated in the presentation of the work. And photography itself is, according to some, after all, a method of keeping track of what happens, thus a way to preserve.
Below is a selection of the works. More can be found on Blake Little’s website.
