Opening today, Feb. 28, at 6 p.m., at the Cultural Center “La Medusa” in Este, in the province of Padua, is a group show of seven young artists from theAcademy of Fine Arts in Venice: Alessio Guarda, Federico Seppi, Giacomo Modolo, Jacopo Pagin, Matteo Valerio, Paolo Pavan and Thomas Tosato.
The exhibition is titled The Dress of Evil: a group show that aims to discover what in our imagination is defined as “evil.” Through paintings, sculptures and photographs, therefore with different techniques, different expressive choices that produce works that are different from each other but united by the same exploratory will, the artists carry out a fascinating research on that concept “with which man has always been confronted in order to distinguish what is good, to draw the dividing line between lawful and unlawful and to found the principles of society and the education of the people,” as Silvia Maria Carolo writes in the introductory essay of the catalog.
The artists therefore investigate “languages, history and myths ranging from realistic to the most symbolic and dreamlike representations, presenting a series of thematic interpretations made with the techniques of painting, photography, engraving, sculpture and installation. Their different origins and artistic experiences result in expressive choices aimed at forming personal languages on the level of techniques, and strongly autonomous, critical on the philosophical, ideological one.” More tied to tradition some, who also adopt traditional techniques such as etching or oil on canvas, more projected in a contemporary perspective the others, the seven artists thus make a journey that crosses the entire history of humanity, from the myths of antiquity to the tensions of the present day. It is a journey that probably will not provide answers, or at least will not provide decisive ones, but will certainly provide the visitor with much material to reflect on.
The appointment is therefore for today, Feb. 28, at 6 p.m., at Este, Centro di Cultura “La Medusa.” The group show of the seven artists will run until March 15 and will open daily from 6 to 7 pm. On Sundays also from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Below are some of the works on display.
