Scripta Prize for young art critics is born: 2,000 euros and publication for the winner


The Scripta Prize for Young Art Criticism, an award reserved for young critics who submit an essay on contemporary art, is born in Florence. The winner gets 2,000 euros and publication with the publishing house Gli Ori.

A prize aimed at young art critics is starting in Florence : it is the Scripta Prize for Young Art Critics, which was created as part of the activities that the association Scripta. Art in Words addresses to the promotion of critical literature and the support of the young generation of professionals in the field of contemporary arts.

With an awareness of the harshness of the publishing system and the difficulties faced by scholars and scholars in publishing their research, the prize consists of a scholarship of 2,000 euros (the amount will be taxed according to the winner’s tax status) and the publication of an essay with the publishing house Gli Ori, which specializes in the languages of art, in the series I limoni.



The application is open to people under the age of 35, of any nationality as long as they have full command of the Italian language. Anabstract for an essay intended for publication is required: an independent and unpublished research project, inherent to the themes of contemporary art in its relations with the public sphere and social studies. A mentoring and comparison report is expected during the period of research and essay writing.

The application must be sent by 1 p.m. on Sept. 17, 2022 to scriptafestival@gmail.com. The application must contain: an outline for the project to be developed in essay form; one’s curriculum vitae; and a bibliography of published and unpublished texts, if any.

The selection is entrusted to a committee made up of Dario Alì, Rizzoli Education manager and co-founder of KABUL magazine, Paolo Gori editor of Gli Ori, Teresa Macrì, art critic and writer, Raffaella Perna, professor of art history, La Sapienza University, Pietro Gaglianò, art critic and editor of Scripta. The outcome of the competition will be announced by the first half of October, with a commitment for the winning name to complete the essay for publication by June 2023.

The Scripta Prize for Young Art Criticism is part of the Scripta / Uplifts 2022 project and is implemented by the Scripta Association.
