For the first time, the Franco Maria Ricci publishing house, simultaneously with the publication of new issues of FMR magazine, is presenting itself to the public with a website and Instagram and Facebook channels entirely dedicated to its volumes, as well as to the history of the publishing house itself and its founder, Franco Maria Ricci. Before today, in fact, all communication related to the editions took place through the website and social channels of the Labirinto della Masone, a place that at the center of the world’s largest maze houses its publishing activity. Now that the volume of this activity is increasing, it is instead proving important to compose new channels, including social ones, dedicated exclusively to the publishing house, but in constant dialogue with its home sweet home, the Labyrinth.
The site from the content point of view presents a focus on telling the story of the publishing house and the figure of its publisher enriched by the presence of the catalog of historical and recent publications. In contrast, the Instagram channel, which also reverberates on the Facebook page, is conceived as a wunderkammer that unfolds revealing precious materials from the publishing house’s archives alternating with curious historical insights and anecdotes about Franco Maria Ricci publications.
In the case of both the website and the social channels, the challenge, the house explains, was to continue a tradition and a very strong graphic imprint that has always distinguished the publishing house. The graphic design cites graphic elements dear to historical publications such as the grid system, the characteristic sugar paper color or glyphs, and Bodonian typography.
“The design of the new site is a necessary event, but since it is a creative intervention, it can be enriched with poetry. It is an effort that requires a lot of imagination and expertise,” says Edoardo Pepino, director of the publishing house. He continues: “We chose the Pop-Eye studio not only because of its proximity to certain aesthetic criteria of ours, to the refined tone of communication, but also because of the special care and deep interest that, in the past, they had taken in our activity and our graphic archive.” The end result is a wonderful surprise for art, book, and graphic design enthusiasts, who will find there the same founding characters of the publishing house combined with a simple and functional interface, as well as a wide repertoire of wonders and curiosities destined to amaze even those approaching it for the first time.
