Who are Lucia Borgonzoni and Gianluca Vacca, the new undersecretaries of cultural heritage

Two undersecretaries of cultural heritage appointed: they are Lucia Borgonzoni of the Northern League and Gianluca Vacca of the 5 Star Movement. Here's who they are.

Last night, the Conte government ratified the appointments of all the undersecretaries: there are 45 of them, 6 of whom will serve as deputy ministers (i.e., they will be able to take part in council of ministers meetings). Of the total, just 6 women are appointed. The Ministry of Cultural Heritage will have two undersecretaries without deputy ministerial responsibilities. They are Senator Lucia Borgonzoni (Northern League) and MP Gianluca Vacca (5 Star Movement).

Lucia Borgonzoni, born in Bologna in 1976, graduated from theAcademy of Fine Arts in Bologna, had a brief career as an artist, following and in the footsteps of her grandfather Aldo Borgonzoni (Medicina, 1913 - Bologna, 2004), one of the main Italian artists active in the Second Post-World War II period (scholars such as Arcangeli, Ragghianti, and Quintavalle have dealt with him), and worked as an interior designer. After a past that saw her close to the social centers (she also worked as a bartender in an underground club in Bologna), she approached militancy in the Northern League and climbed the party’s upper echelons (of which she was also coordinator of the Women’s Political Group) until she became a candidate of the center-right coalition in the 2016 Bologna municipal elections, where she was defeated in the runoff by current mayor Virginio Merola (Borgonzoni obtained 45.36 percent of the vote). She entered Parliament for the first time in the March 4 elections, elected in the Emilia Romagna 01 multi-member constituency.

Gianluca Vacca, born in Rome in 1973, graduated in Letters from the University “Gabriele d’Annunzio” of Chieti, was a lecturer in Italian literature at the same university and has been teaching literature and Latin in high schools since 2004. He became a Pentastellist activist in 2007 at the Pescara group, where he founded the association Pescara in comune by Amici di Beppe Grillo, which ran in 2008 and 2009 in local elections in the Abruzzo municipality. Elected to the Chamber of Deputies in 2013, in the 17th legislature he was a member of the Culture Commission of the Chamber of Deputies.
