Minister of Cultural Heritage Alberto Bonisoli by ministerial decree confirmed the goals set by former minister Franceschini for management and autonomous museums.

In a ministerial decree dated Oct. 3 (but registered on the 24th), the minister of cultural heritage, Alberto Bonisoli, confirmed on the one hand the general directive for administrative action and management of the ministry and on the other hand the objectives of autonomous museum directors set by former minister Dario Franceschini in a decree dated Feb. 20, 2018.

In the first case (administrative action and management), the decree provided for the development of tourism with the intention of reviving Italy’s leadership in the world market (through the diversification of supply, marketing innovation, growth of competitiveness and improvement of sector governance ), the implementation of the new law on live entertainment to increase the resources of the Single Fund for Performing Arts, extending the tax credit to all theaters and making the tax credit for music permanent, as well as securing the cultural heritage damaged by the 2016 earthquake, enhancing the national museum system, allocating 290 million euros for the bonus for 18-year-olds, and the 30 percent tax credit for cultural and creative enterprises. Among the policy priorities, the Feb. 20 decree set the enhancement of “cultural heritage as a driver of economic development,” protection, preservation and recovery including through new technologies, projects to digitize administrative processes and cultural offerings, and increase human resources.



On the other hand, as for the goals of autonomous museums, which were also set by another decree published on Feb. 20, 2018, the document indicated improving the quality and enjoyment of cultural places, ensuring protection and preservation, and improving the efficiency and effectiveness of administrative activities. Goals for individual museums were also indicated. Here are some of them: for the National Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art, among others, the enhancement of the use of technologies for communication and the digitization of the collections, for the Uffizi the setting up of the new rooms dedicated to Caravaggio and the Caravaggesque painters and those instead dedicated to the Contini-Bonacossi collection, for the Gallerie dell’Accademia in Venice the purchase of wheelchairs for the disabled, for the Colosseum the setting up of a website in Italian and English, for the Reggia di Caserta the setting up of a frequent bus connection with the Afragola high-speed station and the provision of electric bicycles for the park.
