Bonisoli is already in campaign mood: with a video, he lists his record of 14 months at MiBAC

Cultural Heritage Minister Alberto Bonisoli lists the balance of his 14 months at MiBAC in a video that already smacks of campaigning.

With a video posted on his Facebook page, Cultural Heritage Minister Alberto Bonisoli rejects, not too veiledly, the accusations made against the 5 Star Movement (of which he is a member) by the Northern League, which in recent days has triggered a government crisis by accusing the Pentastellates of wanting to create a “government of no.” With his video, Bonisoli rejects the accusations and lists the “yeses” and “noes” that he says have been produced during his 14 months at the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, to then draw up his balance sheet of his government action.

“These days I am not particularly happy,” Bonisoli began, “because, as you know, this week there was the resignation of the government of which I am a part because of a perplexity on the part of the other coalition partner, who said he was tired of hearing so many ’no’s.”

“Notwithstanding,” Bonisoli continued, "that only simpletons always say yes and dullards always say no, we have said, during these fourteen months of work we have done for the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities, a lot of yeses and also some noes because when it takes, it takes. I would like to take this opportunity to mention some of the yeses we said, because it is important that there remains a record of the work we have done. We said yes to the increase in the staff of this ministry, which was literally bleeding itself dry; we said yes in an important bet on our young people who will be able to enter state museums forever by spending only two euros; we said yes to the increase in free days, which increased from twelve to twenty, because we want everyone to be able to enjoy the museums and the treasures that we keep inside our museums; we said yes to the single superintendencies because it is important that citizens have a quick and easy relationship with the administration; we said yes to the end of the precariousness in the lyric-symphonic foundations (there is a decree that became law: it is a first step, but at least from today there will be the possibility to stabilize those who perhaps have been working within the opera for years with contracts always renewed one after the other); we said yes to safety, because for the first time we have a plan to put in place the fire regulations of all the ministry buildings, where we will spend 109 million for more than 300 fine-tuning interventions; we said yes to design museums(for the first time Milan will have two design museums starting next year and will be able to show the world what a design capital like Milan is capable of); and we also said yes to enhancement with great vision of what our museum heritage is. Right now I am at the Last Supper, which becomes part of the Great Brera, because Milan needs to have a great cultural attractor that generates tourist flows, like exactly so many other cities of art rediscovering a vocation, precisely, as a city of art that perhaps Milan had forgotten in recent years."

Finally, Bonisoli concludes, “we also said some no’s, certainly: we said no when it came to seeing behaviors where through fake cooperatives people were going to use people inside the museums spending as little as possible and paying starvation wages. This will no longer happen. We said no when there were requests for regionalization that we felt were excessive, such as regionalizing the Single Fund for the Performing Arts, which by definition must remain national, and then the regions will be able to put regional funds alongside as much as they want. And finally, we said no when we saw situations around Italy of treating cultural heritage as if it were a commodity that was not okay, and I will just mention the case of the Ferris wheel next to the excavations of Pompeii, to which we absolutely said it was not okay. This is in a nutshell the balance of these fourteen months, we are also ready to go ahead and work, but the important thing is that citizens know what has been done and finally end this absurd narrative that in this government there were ministries that simply wanted to say no to everything. This is not true, has never happened and will never happen.”
