The Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism is coping with the new total culture lockout imposed by the dpcm of last Nov. 4 with a new shower of money, which increases the already considerable sums MiBACT has allocated to cope with the emergency (more than 9 billion euros).
The new measures benefit the performing arts and non-state museums. Specifically, 20 million go to actors, singers, dancers, musicians and workers hired by theaters, orchestras and opera and symphony foundations: these are resources from the Entertainment, Cinema and Audiovisual Emergency Fund established by the Cura Italia decree. The beneficiaries are members of the Performing Arts Workers’ Pension Fund, contract holders with theaters, theater production centers, professional theater companies, theater or multidisciplinary festivals, dance production bodies and centers, lyric-symphonic foundations, traditional theaters, concert-orchestral institutions, instrumental ensembles, dance festivals, circus, music or multidisciplinary festivals, music production bodies or circus enterprises. The refreshments concern performances in the period between Feb. 23 and Dec. 31, 2020, not performed as a result of health emergency containment measures from Covid-19. Eligible are Italian residents with incomes for 2019 of less than 50,000 euros: the application must be submitted within 15 days of the publication of the notice. The resources will be distributed, up to a maximum of 4,000 euros, among all applicants eligible for the contribution, in an amount equal to 100 percent of the minimum contractual compensation recognized for the total number of working days provided by the contracts not executed, net of the days already compensated, according to the provisions of the collective bargaining for the sector, by the employer.
“Thanks to the fruitful interlocution with the U.N.I.T.A. association,” says Minister of Cultural Heritage Dario Franceschini, “a measure has been put in place that intervenes to support artists and workers in the theater, hard hit by the pandemic, as well as for the world of music, dance and circus.”
Still, 17 million euros are earmarked for non-state museums, which will also cover the needs of entities that had hitherto been excluded from relief efforts.
