In Venice, a few months after theinauguration of the new exhibition space Le stanze della Fotografia, a joint initiative of Marsilio Arte and Fondazione Giorgio Cini on the island of San Giorgio Maggiore, Marsilio Arte has established a new Foundation with the aim of promoting the culture and art of photography. The Foundation “The Rooms of Photography” was established on September 18, 2023 (however, the news was given in the last hours) by Marsilio Arte with the contribution, as Promoter, of the Venice Foundation. President of the Foundation is Luca De Michelis, managing director of Marsilio Editori and Marsilio Arte, vice-president Giovanni Dell’Olivo, director general of the Venice Foundation, and board member Emanuela Bassetti, president of Marsilio Arte. As the charter recalls, the purpose of the Foundation is to train, promote and disseminate expressions of photographic culture and art through activities related to the Le Stanze della Fotografia project.

“Thanks to the birth of the Foundation Le Stanze della Fotografia we could expand the cultural offer in the field of photography becoming a national and international reference point for this sector, aiming especially to involve the younger generations,” said President Luca De Michelis.

“Our presence within the Fondazione Le Stanze della Fotografia,” stressed Michele Bugliesi, president of the Venice Foundation, “confirms our active commitment to the promotion of young talents and their capacity for creative vision and design. It is a commitment that is increasingly connoting the projects of the Venice Foundation, in coherence with the path started in recent years to support the process of regeneration of the city’s social fabric.”

The first initiative of Le Stanze della Fotografia Foundation is an open call aimed at photographers under 30 who will be able to exhibit their shots in the atrium of Le Stanze della Fotografia on the occasion of the exhibition Helmut Newton. Legacy, scheduled for March 27, 2024 in the space on the Island of San Giorgio Maggiore. Participation in the initiative is free of charge and requires each participant to take three photographs that form a story inspired by Helmut Newton’s quote, “My job as a photographer is to seduce, amuse and entertain.” The jury that will select the most representative shots consists of Matthias Harder, director of the Helmut Newton Foundation; Denis Curti, artistic director of Le Stanze della fotografia; Francesca Malgara, artistic director of Mia Photo Fair; and renowned photographer Maurizio Galimberti.
