Thanks to fundraising efforts sponsored by the Siena Awards, the protagonists of the Hardship of Life shot that has toured the world, Munzir and Mustafa, will soon arrive in Italy to be treated at the Vigorso Prosthesis Center in Budrio, in the province of Bologna. The announcement was made by the Siena Awards, the photography and visual arts festival that honored Turkish photographer Mehmet Aslan ’s shot as the overall winner of the SIPA 2021, Siena International Photo Awards, and launched a fundraiser to help Munzir, Mustafa and other victims of the conflict in Syria by supporting a program to rehabilitate and support people who have undergone amputations.

“Thanks to the first donations from the fundraiser activated in recent days,” explains Luca Venturi, artistic director of the Siena Awards, “Munzir and Mustafa’s family will arrive in Siena in the coming weeks together with photographer Mehmet Aslan, who brought this story to the attention of the whole world with an extraordinary shot with a strong emotional impact. From Siena we will accompany them to the Vigorso Prosthesis Center in Budrio, with whom we are already in contact thanks to Dr. Andrea Causarano and who is waiting for Mustafa and his father to visit them and schedule the prosthetic surgeries that will give them a better future.”
