The second edition of the ISPA Photographic Award on Sustainability kicked off on February 16, 2021.
ISPA Award is the first Italian photography award dedicated to sustainability that invites photography to narrate three main thematic areas: Environmental Sustainability, Social Sustainability, and Sustainable Governance. Environmental sustainability, in all its possible declinations, from the reduction of pollution and harmful emissions to the protection of biodiversity; respect for human, cultural and social rights and the political implications that follow in terms of governance, to build a value chain between governments, companies, associations and individuals: three key themes and concepts for the future development of our planet, also synthesized in the international acronym ESG(Environmental, Social and Governance), which originated in the economic-financial sphere and has become an expression of a 360-degree vision of sustainable development, in the name of innovation, accessible welfare, environmental protection and biodiversity.
The project was born in 2020 from an idea of the photojournalistic agency Parallelozero, in collaboration with Pimco, with the aim of responding to the growing need to tell Italian stories of progress toward a more sustainable future. Along these lines, photography is considered a privileged tool to offer through the immediacy of images, a testimony of good practices with positive effects. In its first edition, the award saw the participation of about two hundred and fifty photographers, of sixteen different nationalities, with more than 1,700 photographs arriving from all over the world. Once again this year, ISPA Award is confirmed as an international award, and is open to all categories of photographers, without age limits, from Italy and abroad.
Three categories, three prizes:
- The Grant of 10,000 euros for the production of a complete photographic project to be carried out between April and October 2021. The Grant ISPA Award is the only award in Italy to offer the opportunity to develop in six months the production of an entire photographic project by concretely supporting it with funding (deadline by April 1, 2021);
- The Award for the best single photo of 1,500 euros (deadline by September 6, 2021);
- The Prize for the best photographic story of 3,500 euros (by September 6, 2021).
All photographs must be taken on Italian territory. Entry is free of charge.
Projects will be selected by an international jury composed of journalists, photographers and photo editors and chaired by RAI journalist and TV host Tiziana Ferrario. The jury is composed of Martina Bacigalupo (photographer and photography director of French magazine 6Mois), Renata Ferri (editor-in-chief, photo editor of iO Donna / RCS); Lars Lindemann (photography director of GEO Magazin Germany), Luca Locatelli (photographer).
The winning projects will be displayed in a physical and/or digital exhibition scheduled between October and November 2021. The venue and arrangements will be announced at a later date.
