Until June 12, 2022, the Photolux Festival 2022 is being held in Lucca, this year dedicated to the possible declinations of love: from passionate desire to friendship, from affection for one’s family members to physical desire, from pleasure in what one does to unconditional and universal love.
Titled You can call it Love, the Festival intends to tell all that is love through photography. First of all, because the photographic medium does not express itself through terms with clear boundaries, but does so through visual suggestions that resonate within us according to our personal experiences; secondly, because through the grammar of images it is possible to construct subtle narratives that elude definitions, revealing unprecedented levels of reading and interpretation. Photography returns a layered and polyform representation of Love, and it is precisely in the multiplicity of the photographic language that the infinite possibilities of the “love discourse” Roland Barthes spoke of are shown: a fragmentary discourse, because it is complex, but necessary and, in its elusiveness, omnipresent in the life of each of us.
The selection of authors in the 2022 edition of the Photolux Festival presents the multiplicity of possible approaches, some new and contemporary, others more classic and traditional, to the theme of love. With the exhibition proposal of You can call it Love, photography becomes an X-ray machine, capable of seeing through us and giving voice to feelings, desires, emotions.
Among the proposed exhibitions are Ferdinando Scianna - Religious Feasts in Sicily, Brass mon Amour, Erik Kessels - In Almost Every Picture #16 - Sexi Sofa, Seiichi Furuya - Face to Face (1978 - 1985), Robin Schwartz - Amelia & The Animals, Pixi Liao - Pimo Dictionary, and others. Workshops and portfolio readings also planned.
Main partner Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Lucca. Photolux Festival is organized by the Photolux Cultural Association.
