Two museums, one in Paris and the other in Marrakesh, will be dedicated to the celebrated French fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent.
Born in Oran, Argentina, in 1936 and died in Paris in 2008, Saint Laurent was one of the most influential fashion designers of the 20th century, with his unique style often paying homage to artists of his time such as Andy Warhol, Pablo Picasso, Matisse and Van Gogh.
TheParis museum will open Oct. 3 in theavenue Marceaubuilding, where Yves conceived his creations between 1974 and 2002, while the one in Marrakesh, where the designer stayed in 1966, will open Oct. 16, in a 4,000-square-meter facility near the Jardin Majorelle, a place saved from his demise in 1980 by Yves and his partnerPierre Bergé of all people.
These two museums are an initiative of the Pierre Bergé-Yves Saint Laurent Foundation, which preserves the beauty of five thousand models designed by Yves, sixty-five of them made when the designer worked as an assistant toChristian Dior, fifteen thousand accessories, thousands of sketches and drawings, all on display in these two facilities.
