Young Italian designers design socks for a Mantua-based startup(About Socks, which specializes in trading high-quality Italian socks) and not only help companies in the supply chain restart after being confined by Covid-19, but also do solidarity work. This is the meaning of the second edition of the Socks, Young Creatives and Solidarity contest. The contest, promoted by About Srl, Filmar spa, Consorzio Filoscozia, and Associazione Culturale Marketing nelle PMI, with testimonial the Istituto Oncologico Mantovano (IOM), was created to help young designers emerge and to support oncology research: now in its second edition in 2020, it has already reached a level of very high quality.
The podium is all occupied by young designers from Politecnico di Milano: the competition was won by Elia Crippa (Politecnico di Milano) with the Blue Crane project. In second place was Alessandra Catò (Politecnico di Milano) with the Movedlockdown project, and in third place was Aurora Paganelli (Politecnico di Milano) with the Retro Futurism project. The special prize “Marketing Association in SMEs” went to Francesco Marshan (NABA - New Academy of Fine Arts) with the project Escape from reality.
The first place winner, thanks to the yarn made available by Filmar spa, will be given the opportunity to create his or her own collection with About Socks and the fine yarn Filoscozia the original: the socks made will be offered for sale and a percentage will go to IOM, while the other designers will be offered opportunities for collaboration. The physical award ceremony will take place in September (according to Covid regulations), when the third edition of the contest will be launched.
