Genoa has launched its Spotify channel through which it offers playlists dedicated to the city and its museums.
“At this particular time, when we all stay at home,” said Councillor for Cultural Policies Barbara Grosso, “we thought of using the universal language of music to create an emotional connection with all Genovese, who have been invited to contribute to the creation of playlists: a sort of soundtrack, which translates the emotions and culture of our city into music.”
A number of playlists are already available on Spotify’s Genovamorethis channel, accessible from this link https://bit.ly/SpotifyGenovamorethanthis, which are intended to take the listener on a virtual musical journey of Genoa and its museums.
The Genovamorethanthis #1 playlist comes from the suggestions of the followers of the Genovamorethanthis Instagram channel, who have chosen the ten songs that best represent the Genoese spirit: from the eternal Ma se ghe penso to the songs of Ex-Otago via Fabrizio De André and Gino Paoli, in a true celebration of Genoese songwriting.
Genovamorethanthis #2, on the other hand, is an invitation to all fans: each Spotify user will be able to add the song that most connects him or her to our city, to give life to a creative and heterogeneous collection.
In addition, Genoa’s twenty-one museums will have anentire dedicated section, with a playlist each, elaborated by the conservator of reference, in order to tell the story of the museum remotely, but with a view also to using it for live visits after reopening.
It is a musical journey through time and genres: starting withMameli’s Hymn from the playlist of the Museum of the Risorgimento (where the autograph manuscript is preserved) and ending with songs such as She don’t know me (TuaMadre) and Asteroids (Zero Reset), whose videos were filmed at the Museum of Natural History.
Inevitable then are the lyrics that represent the temple of Genoese music: Viadelcampo29rosso, from Umberto Bindi to Luigi Tenco and the New Trolls, without giving up the dialectal ballads of the Trilli.
The magnificence of the Strada Nuova Museums is embodied by We are Golden (Mika) and Torna a casa (Måneskin); there is no shortage of Niccolò Paganini tunes either, which, like Fabrizio De André’s songs, are the common thread linking the playlists of many museums.
All the songs that tie in with the Genoa Museum of History have also been collected: from stadium choruses to the Cronache dei ’90 podcast recounting the first and second half of Genoa - Liverpool ’92.
