It is the necessary condition to look from today with confidence to the future,“ the dossier reads. ”Inside the term re-generation is the entire recent history of Volterra: the history of its psychiatric hospital, the second largest in Italy in the entire 20th century, the first to be conceived as a place of sharing and not of segregation of mental illness; the story of its prison, the first in the world that was able to generate a theater, and thanks to theater reconfigure and regenerate lives and spaces for its community of inmates, guards, magistrates and the entire outside community, becoming a model for all of how culture can be a real tool for change and transformation. Places that instinctively make us think of the negation of humanity, and actually put it before our eyes with all its full evidence. These places are truly the great places of the contemporary. Hospital and prison in Volterra are the places of the care of society, not of the death of the self. This is the challenge of our dossier, even more important and significant after what has happened in all the states of the planet: to grow as a community of care that pursues the well-being of all, starting with the most fragile."

Regenerating work: for a new relationship between artisans, territory, design, in collaboration with local, national and international partners. Corresponding to this objective are the cultural projects contained in the chapter VOLTERRA THAT INNOVATES.

Regenerating its roots: new spaces in which to tell the millennia of local history with new perspectives on the future, with new technologies, with new paths. Digital at the service of history is a challenge that Volterra takes up and relaunches. To this goal correspond the cultural projects contained in the chapter VOLTERRA THAT TELLS.

Regenerating cultural projects: residencies of artists, scientists, experts, scholars as an engine for a new quality of society, more sustainable, able to work in a network on widespread territories. The cultural projects contained in the VOLTERRITORY chapter correspond to this goal.
