Vittorio Sgarbi was officially appointed Chairman of the Board of Directors of Fondazione Canova Onlus on January 26, 2019, during the board meeting in Possagno.

He takes the place of Franca Coin, who in her three years in office has made possible the Foundation’s collaboration with international museum institutions and the launch of important restoration activities.

Vittorio Sgarbi’s appointment aims to continue in this direction of openness and innovation while respecting Possagno’s heritage and legacy. Of paramount importance will be the coordination of activities in preparation for the Canova celebrations, which will begin on July 11, 2019, two hundred years after the laying of the foundation stone of the Temple of Possagno, and run through October 13, 2022, the date marking the two hundredth anniversary of Canova’s death. During these four years, the Antonio Canova Gypsotheca and Museum will be the centerpiece of a series of cultural initiatives to celebrate the greatest exponent of neoclassicism in the world.
