The Mazzatosta Chapel in the church of Santa Maria della Verità in the city of Viterbo, whose frescoes represent one of the masterpieces created by Lorenzo da Viterbo, will have new lighting.
The project was funded by the Carivit Foundation and carried out in collaboration with the Prefecture of Viterbo, Soprintendenza Archeologia, Belle Arti e Paesaggio for the Metropolitan Area of Rome, the Province of Viterbo and Southern Etruria and the Diocese of Viterbo.
The intervention, which provides new light on this 10th-century work of art, represents the final stage of a larger program of restoration work, supported by the Fondazione Carivit and dedicated to the recovery, reintegration and reconstruction of the missing parts of the glazed majolica floor and the 15th-century stuccoes of the altar present inside the Chapel itself. The new lighting involved the use of special LED light sources, which allow the actual hues present on the walls to be seen, and the placement of an indirect spotlight that allows for greater enhancement of the vault.
