Verona: Juliet's balcony reopens

The Balcony of Juliet's House in Verona reopens: restoration work, commissioned by the city and screened by the Superintendence, has been completed.

The balcony of Juliet’s House reopens following restoration work that began last October 23, restoring its light and beauty. “Juliet’s balcony,” said Mayor Federico Sboarina, "is undoubtedly our most visited tourist monument, and preserving it in all its splendor is also a duty to the thousands of tourists who come to admire it every year.

The work was commissioned by the municipality, screened by the Superintendence and carried out free of charge by the Verona-based company Tecnored, which specializes in the production of systems for dehumidification and consolidation of monumental civil buildings. The intervention cost 40 thousand euros.

"We can only address the most sincere thanks to the company Tecnored for this gift to the city - affama heritage councillor Edi Maria Neri - Juliet’s balcony is undoubtedly our most visited tourist monument and preserving it in all its splendor is also a duty to the thousands of tourists who come every year to admire it. Initiatives such as this, in which the private citizen supports the public body by providing his professionalism, are welcome."

“A high-level intervention,” adds Public Works Councillor Luca Zanotto, "careful to preserve the beauty of the monument and carried out with a truly cutting-edge technical methodology.

After a first phase of static investigation, carried out during the summer months, the work entered the operational phase, with the analysis of materials and the use of specific conservation techniques. Specifically, the restoration involved cleaning the entire balcony; sealing the lesions present; consolidating the tuffaceous stones, which are more susceptible to wear and pollution; and applying waterproof protective material to the entire surface of the balcony, including the walking surface.
