University of Genoa gives away books destined for pulping

Nice initiative from Genoa: the University's School of Humanities Library gives away books destined for the scrap heap.

Nice initiative of the Department of Antiquities, Philosophy and History of theUniversity of Genoa, which in the past few hours decided to give away books from the Library of the School of Humanities that were destined for the pulping process (mostly remnants of very large print runs and present in abundant quantities at the Genoese institution). Indeed, the library has to make room for security reasons, and many books on history, literature, philology and archaeology would soon be destroyed. Hence the idea of giving them away to any citizen who wants to take them home. These are hundreds of volumes that can be picked up directly on site.

The stalls with the free copies were set up in the foyers of the Palazzi on Via Balbi 4 and Via Balbi 6, opening 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. The initiative was a huge success: students and citizens alike came to the Genoa library, demonstrating a strong demand for culture. It is hoped that other entities will follow Genoa’s example.
