Union of Italian Buddhists establishes 1 mln fund for culture. Here's how to apply for help

TheUnion of Italian Buddhists (UBI), the organization that has gathered fifty-four Buddhist centers in our country since 1984 and aims to support and represent people of the Buddhist religion, has established a special fund of 1 million euros to support culture throughout Italy. The fund, set up to support “a crucial sector of Italian society and economy, which has been seriously challenged by the Coronavirus emergency and will still face months of great uncertainty and suffering,” as stated in the presentation of the initiative, can be accessed to ask for help in the period between May 10 and 20, 2020.

To ask for information, one must write an email to emergenza@buddhismo.it (phone inquiries will not be considered), while to apply for help, one must download and fill out documents that can be downloaded from the UBI website.

“With these funds,” says Filippo Scianna president of UBI, “we want to intervene in support of a crucial sector of Italian society and economy that has been seriously challenged by the Coronavirus emergency and will still face months of great uncertainty and suffering. Our choice aims to support and enhance various realities that operate in the territories of our country and represent a valuable response to civil as well as cultural degradation. Ours is a small gesture compared to the enormous need created, which nevertheless wants to testify to the importance of protecting the work of these people and to reiterate how the world of culture must continue to have the place it deserves in Italian society. Through this commitment, we also want to remark how culture and soul-searching are often intertwined in the lives of human beings, supporting each other and testifying how knowledge can contribute to making us better and be a decisive engine for restarting.”
