The Council of Ministers yesterday approved some important measures to support tourism against the coronavirus emergency. This was announced by Minister of Cultural Heritage Dario Franceschini: the measures were adopted after the minister himself met with representatives of the categories. In fact, over the past few days, associations representing the tourism, entertainment, and film industries, as well as trade unions, have taken turns at the ministry: representatives of Fiavet, Assosturismo Confersercenti, Assohotel, Confindustria Alberghi, Federalberghi, Astoi Confindustria Viaggi, Federturismo, Confturismo, Federviaggi Assoviaggi, Federazione Turismo Organizzato, CNA Turismo, Unindustria Turismo, Agriturist Confagricoltura, AGTA Guide Turistiche, GTI, AGILO, ANGT, Associazione Uniti per l’Italy, Federterme, Permanent Parks, Convention Bureau, Alleanza delle Cooperative Italiane Turismo e Beni Culturali, Federcongressi, Filcams CGIL, Fiascat CISL, UIL Tucs. “For tourism,” Franceschini said, “three different phases are planned. The first, the most immediate,in which we talk about deferment of payments. The second concerns structural measures of intervention, while the third will be for the relaunch of the country’s image to get out of the emergency.”

The first measures concern the suspension, until April 30, 2020, of payments of social security contributions and withholding taxes for travel and tourism agencies, tour operators and all tourist accommodation businesses throughout Italy (Ateco Code 55: hotels, room rentals, agritourisms, campsites, etc.). Reimbursement, including through vouchers, was then established for those who were unable to travel or take advantage of package tours as a result of the measures taken and the consequences due to the covid-19 emergency (applies to package tours and travel to and from the red zone; to go to events canceled or suspended by ordinances and decrees; to travel abroad blocked due to covid-19; and to school trips).
