Theater also goes social

In times of emergency, theater also goes social: live streams, readings and stories from the world of the stage.

If museums don’t stop in times of the Coronavirus emergency, theater does as well: many initiatives involving the world of the stage, from live streaming to poetry readings and great classics, are appearing on social media these days.

Among the various initiatives, the Facebook page Racconti in tempo di peste, a project by Sergio Maifredi and Corrado d’Elia, produced by Teatro Pubblico Ligure and Compagnia Corrado d’Elia, has been opened: every day a story is published as a contemporary Decameron. A way to “go on stage anyway. We asked a hundred friends, a hundred artists, writers, journalists, philosophers, poets, actors to give us a moment of beauty,” as the creators state.

Instead, Le Musichall of Turin, under the artistic direction of Arturo Brachetti, presents Facebook directs for theater to enter homes for free. “If the spectators cannot come to the theater, we try to bring theater to the spectators,” they state from the organization.

The Teatro Stabile di Palermo launches online, on its Youtube channel, a program of recitals and readings for young and old, Classicamente Biondo. “As promised, Teatro Biondo does not leave you alone,” announces Pamela Villoresi, "from today we are sending online Classicamente Biondo, which includes poetry recitals, readings of great classics, fairy tales for children, monologues accompanied by music and songs. Every day there will be surprises ... so that the hours pass more peacefully, so that studying alone is more fun, because being together with poetry is comforting."

And again, ERT Fondazione’s Permanent Company launched, from 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 10, on its social channels, Io leggo a casa: a 24-hour streaming marathon of full readings of The Conscience of Zeno, in which the company’s actors took turns every hour for an entire day. The full reading is available on ERT’s Permanent Company YouTube channel.
