Twelve paintings are the protagonists of the virtual exhibition, all held in the collections of the Florentine museum headquarters, including between the Middle Ages and the 19th century and depicting the most significant episodes of the Passion and Resurrection of Christ.
Thus, there are Leandro Bassano’sLast Supper, Ludovico Cigoli’s Deposition, Titian’sEcce Homo, Antonio Ciseri’sEcce Homo, Agnolo Gaddi’s Crucifixion, Luca Signorelli’s Crucifixion with Magdalene, Christ in theGarden of Olives by Perugino, Luca Signorelli’s Predella with Scenes from the Passion, Giottino’s Pietà of St. Remigius, Antonio Ciseri’s Transporting Christ to the Sepulcher, Rogier Van der Weyden’s Deposition in the Sepulcher, RubensResurrection, and Titian’s Risen Christ.

The initiative takes its cue from the similar virtual exhibition Today a Savior is Born for You, which can be visited online during the Christmas holidays and was a great success.

“The universal cultural, as well as religious, value of Easter celebrations suggests approaching works of art with a keen eye for their themes and meaning. With these periodic exhibitions dedicated to the most important feasts of the year, the Uffizi Galleries’ website addresses virtual and real visitors through unprecedented ’itineraries’ that offer further artistic and spiritual insights,” said Uffizi Galleries Director Eike Schmidt.
