The Pinacoteca Ambrosiana has announced that the restoration of the preparatory cartoon of Raphael’s School of Athens, one of the frescoes decorating the Stanza della Segnatura in the Vatican Museums, has been completed.
The Pinacoteca Ambrosiana has held the preparatory cartoon made in charcoal and oil since 1626.
“The last phase has begun! Raphael’s cartoon is leaving its location so that it can be remounted. After the long restoration, the time to admire it again is approaching!” the Pinacoteca announced through a tweet.
It will be possible to admire the work again in October, in the same room where it was kept: the latter will be refitted.
