To date, France ’s most-visited exhibition is the one dedicated to Tutankhamun, staged at the Grande Halle de La Villette.
Open to the public until September 22, 2019, the exhibition, since its opening on March 23, has recorded 1.3 million admissions, beating the record set in 1967, when the star of the successful exhibition was still Tutankhamun. The latter, at the Petit Palais, had in fact reached 1.24 million visitors.
One would say that exhibitions concerning the Egyptian world are very successful in France.
Today’s exhibition Toutânkhamon, le Trésor du Pharaon aims to celebrate the centenary of the discovery of the tomb of the famous pharaoh of the 18th Egyptian dynasty by bringing together more than 150 masterpieces, fifty of which have left Egypt’s borders for the first time.
In order for all visitors to be able to admire the exhibits, closing hours have been extended on Sundays and Thursdays until 10:30 p.m. and on Fridays and Saturdays until midnight.
The exhibition started in Cairo and stopped in Los Angeles before reaching Paris. After the Paris closure, its tour will continue to London and then to Sydney, concluding in 2024, touching on many other cities.
The 150 objects featured in the exhibition will be reunited with the rest of the permanent collection in the future Grand Egyptian Museum in Cairo.
