The Louvre acquires the Book of Hours of Francis I

The Louvre in Paris has purchased through the Tous mécènes! campaign the splendid Book of Hours of Francis I.

The Louvre Museum in Paris will have a new work in its collections: the Book of Hours of Francis I.

It is a true masterpiece of the French Renaissance: an illustrated manuscript with sixteen paintings covered in a sumptuous gold binding embellished with precious stones.

This book passed through the hands of Francis I, Henry IV, and Cardinal Mazarin before making its way to England in the early 18th century.
It is considered a masterpiece without equivalent in French and foreign public collections.

The purchase was made possible thanks to the Tous mécènes! campaign and the generosity of donors who raised more than 1,400,000 euros.
