The art-based thriller Velvet Buzzsaw, starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Toni Collette and John Malkovich, arrives on Netflix

Starting Feb. 1, 'Velvet Buzzsaw,' an art-house thriller starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Toni Colette and John Malkovich, arrives on Netflix.

Starting Feb. 1, 2019, Netflix, the world’s most popular streaming platform, will enrich its offering of exclusives with Velvet Buzzsaw, which reunites director Dan Gilroy and actor Jake Gyllenhaal after 2014’s The Jackal - Nightcrawler. Set in the contemporary art world of Los Angeles, the film sees Josephina(Zawe Ashton), an up-and-coming agent, come into possession of the paintings of an elderly artist who lives in his own building after his death. Before he died, the man specifically asked that his works be destroyed, but Josephine decides to sell them, arousing the interest of critics and collectors.

Art and commerce collide, until dark secrets behind these works endanger all who come into contact with them. The cast also includes Rene Russo (the director’s wife), Toni Collette, Tom Sturridge, Natalia Dyer, Daveed Diggs, Billy Magnussen and John Malkovich.

Prior to its streaming debut, Velvet Buzzsaw will premiere Jan. 27 at the Sundance Film Festival.
