Technologically ancient: the archaeological heritage of San Gimignano and Volterra comes alive in 3D

The 'Technologically Ancient' app is born, bringing the archaeological heritage of San Gimignano and Volterra to life in 3D.

Thanks to the new “Technologically Ancient” app, it will be possible to relive the archaeological heritage of San Gimignano(Siena) and Volterra(Pisa) in 3D. Presented on Tuesday, April 10, at Palazzo Strozzi Sacrati in Florence, the app makes it possible to virtually visit the Roman Villa of Aiano, the Roman Theater of Volterra and the archaeological museums of the respective cities, learn about the history of the sites, see the most important materials and enter, again virtually, inside the Villa of Aiano, reconstructed according to the studies of the team of archaeologists led by Professor Marco Cavalieri of theCatholic University of Leuven(Belgium).

Stefano Ciuoffo, regional councillor for tourism, said, "Today more than one of Tuscany ’s cultural and tourist excellences, we have presented a method. Because the ability to communicate with a rapid and immediate language allows tourists and visitors to take advantage of cultural offerings with which the region abounds. A method that is increasingly spreading and expanding and that gives the possibility to reach an increasing number of people but also to stimulate and encourage them to get to know the younger audience."

The purpose of the application, in fact, is to bring new audiences closer to the knowledge of archaeology precisely by reconstructing cultural heritage in 3D. Developed by Unit C1, the app will be usable at museums and during the open day of the Roman Villa of Aiano, which will be held on July 28.
