Stop the chimes of Big Ben until 2021

London ’s Big Ben will no longer chime until 2021.

That was the decision made to protect the workers who will be engaged in the long restoration of the Elizabeth Tower-a four-year-long restoration.

The work will start next Monday and the chimes of the clock will only be heard on New Year’s Eve and Remembrance Sunday.

The restoration is “vital to safeguard the monument for future generations.”
The cost of the renovation would be 5.7 billion pounds.
