Starting today, cinemas and theaters reopen across Italy. Here are the conditions

Cinemas and theaters reopen today throughout Italy. Here are conditions and rules to follow.

Today, June 15, cinemas and theaters, which were still closed due to the Covid-19 coronavirus emergency, reopen throughout Italy. The measure for the reopening of cinemas, theaters and concert halls was included in the June 11, 2020, dpcm, “Further implementing provisions of Decree-Law No. 19 of March 25, 2020, on urgent measures to cope with the COVID-19 epidemiological emergency, and Decree-Law No. 33 of May 16, 2020, on further urgent measures to cope with the COVID-19 epidemiological emergency.”

Here are what rules are set by the dpcm. The shows will be held with pre-assigned and spaced seating, and provided that interpersonal distance of at least one meter is still ensured for both staff and spectators who are not habitually living together. For outdoor performances, the maximum number is 1,000 spectators; for indoor performances, 200 per single room.

The activities must be carried out in accordance with the contents of protocols or guidelines suitable for preventing or reducing the risk of contagion in the relevant area or similar areas, adopted by the regions or the Conference of Regions and Autonomous Provinces in accordance with the principles contained in the national protocols or guidelines, or in accordance with the principles that have informed the choices of the Technical and Scientific Committee: At least one-meter spacing, hand hygiene, control and response capacity of territorial and hospital public health services, system, organizational, prevention and protection, hygiene and communication measures declined on the specific production and social life context.

Events involving gatherings in enclosed spaces or outdoors remain suspended when compliance with safety conditions cannot be ensured. No reopening, however, for discos and similar venues, as well as fairs and congresses.

Commenting on the reopening, the president ofANEC - National Association of Cinema Exhibitors, Mario Lorini, said, “At the cinema, one can go with one’s family members and relatives and sit next to them, keeping a distance from other groups of people; there is no obligation to wear a mask when sitting in the theater; refreshment areas inside the cinema facilities can be opened. Thanks and applause are due to the intervention of Minister Franceschini and his closest collaborators, Prof. Lorenzo Casini and Dr. Salvatore Nastasi, for the support shown to the cinema and to the decisive action of the Conference of the Regions, which has taken on board the requests of exhibitors, extending to the entire national territory the protocol already approved by the Puglia Region. This is an important step to allow the restart of the entertainment sector, which has been at a standstill for almost 4 months with more than 30 million admissions lost, and with a restart path that will be gradual and will lead within a few weeks to a return to full operation with new titles arriving in theaters. Cinema in Italy can restart uniformly with what is happening in the main European markets, demonstrating that it is also fully aligned in terms of spectator safety and protection of our employees. Now we are thinking about a major communication campaign to support theaters that reopen. City cinemas, multiplexes, outdoor arenas, exhibitors gradually reopen and are ready to welcome the public.”
