Antonio Lampis is the new director of the Royal Palace of Caserta, replacing Mauro Felicori who had to leave the post, by law, due to age limits. His will be an interim position, pending the call for the international selection of the new director. This was announced by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage in a note. Antonio Lampis is the current director general of Italian museums(an interview with him here).
These are his first statements, made on his Facebook account at 3:09 p.m. on Nov. 6, as soon as he learned of the appointment: “a note has been circulated by Mibac with which the Minister informs that he has initiated the procedures to entrust me with the interim of the Royal Palace of Caserta while waiting for the selection and appointment procedures of the next director, Mauro Felicori’s successor, to be finalized. It is in my character and in my training as a servant of the State not to back down, and I owe the Minister, the Secretary General and the Chief of the Cabinet the greatest possible cooperation and in a spirit of service. I know that this is a very heavy commitment, accompanying the already very heavy commitment of the General Directorate of Museums and its 466 institutes. I know that I can count on the support of many colleagues and collaborators, and I will study the situation with deep commitment, without being able to neglect the great challenges for the nation’s museums in this phase of enthusiastic citizen participation and development of the national museum system. I hope that the government will realize as soon as possible what it has planned in terms of simplification of procedures, including those for the selection of state personnel, as I remain convinced (and I do not tire of repeating) that the simplification of administrative action is one of the most important challenges for change in the country.”
