Rome, success and last days for Russian tract exhibition at Vatican Museums

Public success for the exhibition VELINA, the Russian Tract. From Dionysus to Malevič, set up in the Braccio di Carlo Magno in the Vatican Museums: which can still be visited for a few days (until Feb. 16), the exhibition showcases 54 masterpieces from the Tretyakov State Gallery and the Russian Museums, in view of the collaboration between Russia and Italy. The selected works, of great artistic value and profound spiritual significance, show the uniqueness of the nation’s artistic mentality: in fact, the exhibition, for the first time in Rome, aims to show, through icons and paintings, how the traditions of ancient Russian art of the 15th century and that of painting of the second half of the 19th and the first third of the 20th century remained related despite the severing of ties that occurred during the reign of Peter I. Thus, the exhibition does not follow a chronological principle, but emphasizes the continuity of traditions, as conceived by the curator, and puts in dialogue these two stages that unlike what they seem, that is, different and almost opposite, are actually one.

The exhibition is made possible thanks to the Ministry of Culture of Russian Federation, Tretyakov Statatel Gallery, one of the largest and most visited museums since 1856, the Vatican Museums, and Alisher Usmanov’s charitable foundation “Art, Science and Sports,” which is concerned with bringing together cultures of different nations, and for this important occasion the strong link between Russian and Italian culture is corroborated. The founder was then recognized by the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, with the Order of Merit for the Italian Republic of the rank of commander, this following his contribution to the development of Russian-Italian relations and for his participation in the restoration works of the Italian Embassy headquarters in Moscow, the Hall of Horatii and Curatii at the Capitoline Museums, the nave of the Basilica of Ulpia, the Dioscuri fountain on the Quirinal Square and the Forum of Trajan in Rome.
