Restoration work starts today, Wednesday, Sept. 20 , on thePorta San Francesco, in Volterra(Pisa).
Announcing the news is the Municipality of Volterra, which lets it be known that there are four restorers, all from Volterra, in charge of restoring the ancient paintings on the city gates.
Marco Buselli, mayor of Volterra, says that an intervention has already been carried out at the top of the gate to block infiltration and that once the restoration is complete, lighting that does not risk damaging the frescoes will be studied together with the Superintendence.
Porta San Francesco, once called Porta Santo Stefano or Pisana, was built during the 13th century, during the construction of the city walls.
