First phase of the restoration of theArch of Janus, a Roman monument located at the ancient Foro Boario: with the initial cleaning of the Tiber-side facade, the white marble that adorns it has returned to its original splendor. Intervention made possible thanks to the Soprintendenza Speciale Archeologia Belle Arti e Paesaggio of Rome and a $215,000 donation from the World Monuments Fund with American Express.
Engraved on the marble was the initials"Cos," which would indicate that the Arch was built in honor of Constantine by his sons.
In addition, Superintendent of the Archaeological Area of Rome Francesco Prosperetti declared his intention to re-propose to the current administration to remove the gates to redevelop the area.
To enhance the monument, free special openings with guided tours are planned from May 26 to June 3.
In the redevelopment plans is the idea of making the area a museum exhibition space with events and productions.
