Record for Labyrinths of the Heart: but how much did the Castel Sant'Angelo venue impact?

Success for Rome's "Labyrinths of the Heart" exhibition: 273,205 visitors visited. But how much of an impact did the Castel Sant'Angelo venue have?

The exhibition “Labyrinths of the Heart. Giorgione and the Seasons of Sentiment between Venice and Rome” ended with more than 270,000 visits.

Opened June 24 and closed Sept. 17, the exhibition was organized by the Polo Museale del Lazio as part of the cultural project ArtCity 2017 and revolved around “The Two Friends,” a double portrait that most critics consider one of the artist’s cornerstones, but unfortunately still unknown to most. This portrait is kept in Rome s Palazzo Venezia, the exhibition venue, which, however, also extended toCastel Sant’Angelo, with 45 paintings, 27 sculptures, 36 printed books and manuscripts, as well as numerous drawings and prints (you can read Finestre sull’Arte’s review here).

Curated by Enrico Maria Dal Pozzolo, the exhibition concluded its review by touching 273,205 visitors. The communiqués issued by the Polo Museale del Lazio, however, do not specify how the calculation was made: in fact, the exhibition was accessed either with a ticket for the Palazzo Venezia venue alone (10 euros full price), or with a single ticket, costing 14 euros, for Palazzo Venezia and Castel Sant’Angelo, lasting three days. However, it should be specified that the cumulative ticket was also the only valid ticket to visit Castel Sant’Angelo during the period of the exhibition, as is still shown on the website castelsantangelo.beniculturali.it:

Therefore, it would be interesting to know how the calculation was made, and whether the sum of 273,205 visitors also includes those who, from June 24 to September 17, entered Castel Sant’Angelo despite not being interested in the exhibition, but only to visit the monument, which, it is worth remembering, in 2016 recorded 1.234,506 visitors, of which 959,203 were paying visitors (for an average of more than 3,000 visitors per day, numbers that do not deviate from the daily average of 3,177 visitors to the exhibition): after the Colosseum, it is the most visited monument ever in Rome.
