Presented in Pistoia the project for the study and restoration of the pulpit of the church of Sant’Andrea, a masterpiece by Giovanni Pisano created between 1297 and 1301.

The famous monument is in need of restoration due to the instability and erosion of the supporting metal structures: in the coming months, therefore, the work will be the subject of a series of investigations and then refurbishment thanks to funding from the nonprofit Friends of Florence. The investigations were started between 2007 and 2008 by theOpificio delle Pietre Dure of Florence and can now be completed thanks to the collaboration of theUniversity of Florence.

The association’s president, Simonetta Brandolini D’Adda, said, “With Friends of Florence we were here in the church of Sant’Andrea almost 10 years ago. We saw the precarious condition even then of the pulpit, now we have found the funding to go ahead and work on this beautiful monument, a stupendous example of Giovanni Pisano throughout the world. The in-depth study and restoration are vitally important to preserve this magnificent masterpiece and offer future generations the same opportunity that we have today to be able to see, study and enjoy it according to the values that Western culture teaches us through art.”
