Positano's Roman Villa will open to the public for the first time

For the first time, the Roman Villa in Positano will open to the public from August 1, 2018: one of the most striking underground archaeological spaces recently discovered.

FromAugust 1, 2018, the Roman Villa in Positano will be open to the public for the first time: it is one of the most striking hypogeal archaeological spaces from the Roman era discovered in recent years in southern Italy.

Following two major excavation campaigns between 2003 and 2006 and between 2015 and 2016, the Villa, whose origins have been known since 1758, will be shown to its visitors.

Soprintendente Archeologia, Belle Arti e Paesaggio of Salerno and Avellino, Francesca Casule, said: “Now that the sites are ready to allow their best use, it will be necessary to work in close synergy with the ecclesiastical authorities and the Municipality of Positano, which has worked so hard for the recovery, to ensure the sustainability of a management that will not be able to disregard a careful and regular monitoring of the site, in order to preserve intact over time - safeguarding its material consistency - its exceptional enchantment.”

The Villa can be visited daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at a cost of 15 euros.
