Portrait of a Gentleman attributed to El Greco on public display again after restoration

After restoration funded by Coop Alleanza 3.0, the Portrait of a Gentleman attributed to El Greco returns to the Ursino Castle in Catania.

The Portrait of a Gentleman attributed to El Greco, one of the most important artists of the late 16th century in Spain, has been restored thanks to Coop Alleanza 3.0 ’s Opera tua project and is now back on display in Catania’s Ursino Castle, home to the city museum.

The painting is an oil on panel dated around 1570 and was part of the Benedictine collection.

“I thank Coop Alleanza 3.0 for this commendable initiative that has made it possible to recover one of the most representative and appreciated paintings in the prestigious collection of the Ursino Castle: one more opportunity to visit the museum,” said the municipal councillor for Culture, Barbara Mirabella, who was present at the return of the work.

For 2018, Coop Alleanza 3.0 has invested a total of 150 thousand euros.
