Pompeii's enchanted garden discovered

An extraordinary room resurfaces in Pompeii Archaeological Park, thelast treasure discovered during excavations that was buried under lapilli and lava in the tragic eruption of Mount Vesuvius.

It is “a wonderful and enigmatic room to be studied in depth,” as Pompeii Archaeological Park director Massimo Osanna puts it: in the house of the Enchanted Garden, as the newly discovered domus has been named, there is a large altar for the worship of the Lares surrounded by snakes, a peacock, fierce gold-colored animals fighting a black boar, small birds and a portrait of a man-dog.
Also depicted in the depicted garden are a well and a colorful pool, as well as a lot of vegetation.

Although the identity of the owner of the Enchanted Garden house is unknown, it is assumed that this “garden” was a place devoted to the protection of home and family. This find is the largest lararium ever discovered in this area.
