The city of Pisa has been awarded the ACTA(Archeological and Cultural Tourism Award), the new journalistic award of the Italian Tourism Press Group (GIST) dedicated to archeological and cultural tourism, as the best UNESCO site. The idea of introducing the award was proposed by Clara Svanera, a travel and culture journalist and GIST member, to Toscana Promozione Turistica in coherence with its 2023 activity plan, with the aim of promoting the enhancement, enjoyment and communication of cultural heritage around the world. The important award was presented at"tourismA 2023," the Archaeology and Cultural Tourism Exhibition held March 24-26 at the Palazzo dei Congressi in Florence. The award has the patronage of Toscana Promozione Turistica.
“The idea of introducing an award dedicated to a conscious tourism that places Italian and world cultural and archaeological heritage at the center, stems from the need to emphasize the daily work that different categories of professionals dedicate to its enhancement: journalists who through their narratives convey the enchantment of so much wealth, the directors and referents of museums, Unesco and archaeological sites who, through targeted communication campaigns, special initiatives, dialogue with the territory, allow a more empathetic fruition. The ACTA prize could only consider Tuscany, a land of culture and beauty and home of the Renaissance, as an ideal setting, and tourismA as a privileged container,” explained Clara Svanera, president of the prize.
“In order to promote the protection, enhancement, enjoyment and communication of cultural heritage around the world,” said Tourism Councillor Paolo Pesciatini, “this new award entitled: ACTA, Archeological & Cultural Tourism Award was established. This is a prestigious award, dedicated to cultural tourism and its international excellences, and Pisa, our wonderful city, has been selected by obtaining this award to confirm the work done in recent years also in the promotion of our beauty together with the approval of the UNESCO Management Plan.”
